Size it to the room, not the ceiling. Add the room's length and width in feet. That number in inches is a good chandelier diameter, so a 12 by 14 ft dining room takes roughly a 26 in. fixture. Over a table, keep the chandelier between one-half and two-thirds of the table's width, and hang the bottom 30 to 36 in. above the tabletop.
